During the massacre, the rebels also burned down almost all the houses in the village of Masala, located in the territory of Benin, in the province of North Kivu.
Beni civil society spokesman Delphin Mupanda reported It’s a real massacre. Most of these bodies are burned. These are people who were certainly locked in the houses before the fires started».
The civil society leader said, We worked all night with the Army to find these bodies. It was difficult. Now, the provincial authority is making arrangements to bury these corpses».
The massacre occurred a day after the same terrorist group killed 13 people in two villages in Mamove territory, also in Beni.
The Ugandan authorities also accuse the group of being the perpetrators of several attacks within its territory, for this reason in November 2021, the two countries initiated a joint military operation, still ongoing, to end the massacres.
